5 Things You Are Doing To Sabotage Your Weight Loss Efforts

I have found 5 things you are doing to sabotage your weight loss efforts!

I have been in the health and nutrition industry for almost ten years and have been helping people lose weight successfully.  I do sell nutritional and weight management programs, but I don't believe you will lose weight with a pill or a drink.

These supplements will help you with your challenges and boost your metabolism for sure, making weight loss easier.  However, if you do not follow a system and have a plan or understand the supplement you are taking, you are wasting your money.  Weight loss happens in the mind first, then it involves following a good, healthy system that you have researched that will work for your lifestyle.

Too many people purchase a food program or buy a diet pill and haphazardly pop a pill when they remember or eat the foods some days of the week, or find out they hate to eat food from a box.

In the years that I have been helping people lose weight, I have found some common things people are doing that set themselves up for failure.

1)  Joining a gym to lose weight.  In order to lose weight by exercising you need to work-out with high intensity cardio for one hour six days a week. Walking on the treadmill at 3.0 speed for a half hour will not burn the number of calories you need to actually lose weight.  Intense cardio like spin classes, zumba or anything similar for 45 minutes three times a week will not burn the amount of calories you need to lose weight.  If you get discouraged, you will not keep going to the gym.

2) Purchasing a food delivery system.  People will lose weight on a purchased food delivery system, if you follow the plan to the T and eat all the meals all the time.  If you're a mom who is cooking food for your family, unless you have the strongest will power, this  type of meal plan will not work for you.  The people who do eat only those meals end up gaining the weight back once it's time to eat real food again since they have no idea how and why they lost weight.  Once they go back to eating their own meals, the weight comes back.

3) Buying diet pills.  People buy pills and expect them to work without having an idea of how to use them in conjunction with a healthy system.  Popping a pill without a plan NEVER works.

4) Reducing calorie intake.  I coached a woman once who was eating 900 calories a day and had not lost any weight!  When you severely restrict your calories, your body does not know when it will receive energy again, so it starts to conserve.  When your body is conserving, it lowers your metabolism and starts holding onto fat so it can use that source for energy!  I cannot stress this enough.  Stop restricting your calorie/food intake!

5) Not keeping a diary for a couple of weeks to understand how much food is actually being consumed. People are not being mindful of what they are eating during the day.  Some people have no idea how much they are eating during the day and think they are eating healthy.  They are very surprised when they find out how much food they are eating and how many calories are in the food they eat.  This is very important.  Once you know portion sizes and calorie content, you can start making better decisions and start eating normal food that you enjoy that fits your likes.

I hope you got something out of this and if you have any other tips to share, please leave a comment!
