Important Differences Between The Types of Digestive Enzymes

There are important differences between the types of digestive enzymes and knowing them will help you chose the best types for you.

If you suffer any kind of digestive ailment, from simple gas and bloating and IBD and ulcers to more serious conditions like Chron's disease and cancer, digestive enzymes can make a big difference.

NONE of the food we eat would be absorbed into our bloodstream if not for the powerful enzymes that break down our food to enable nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream.  If we ate a purely raw food diet, supplementing with digestive enzymes would not be necessary.  However, our modern diet consists primarily of cooked, processed and baked food which makes our bodies rely on producing our own natural enzymes to facilitate digestion.

AGE
SICKNESS
DENTURES/POOR ORAL HEALTH
MEDICATIONS

All of these variables contribute to our body producing FEWER enzymes for healthy digestion.  Where does this lead to for most Americans?  Bloating, gas, IBD, ulcers, acid reflux and the list goes on an on.  This is where supplementing with digestive enzymes is very beneficial for most people.

A general understanding of the types of digestive enzymes.

PROTEASES  Protein digesting enzymes.  Those with celiac or gluten intolerance can also benefit from these types of enzymes.  Proteases facilitate the breakdown of proteins in meat, milk and gluten. This means that digestion takes place faster and more efficiently and the proteins are available to the body to generate healthy protein in the body.  When people are lacking in these enzymes, all kinds of stomach ailments are felt.

LIPASES  Fat separating enzymes.   These enzymes separate fats into individual fatty acids. Most people can benefit from taking Lipase because another benefit is their role in facilitating the absorption of vitamin D, K, E, omega 3 fatty acids and lutein.

AMYLASES  fiber digesting enzymes.  These enzymes break down sugar molecules in starches thus making the sugar immediately available.  Most Americans do NOT need to supplement with Amylases since we have enough sugar in the diet and do not need to facilitate greater absorption of sugar IN THE BLOODSTREAM.  Amylase blockers are actually used in diet supplements to block the conversion of sugar into the bloodstream.  However, humans do not have digestive enzymes for the breakdown of plant fibers, like broccoli stalks, the body ferments them and this can cause bloating and gas.  A reason many stay away from these types of vegetables.  In these cases, cellulose digesting enzymes like; CELLULASE, HEMICELLULASE, PHYTASE and others can process the molecules into smaller particles so eating those foods is more easily digested.

As you can see, there are important differences between the types of digestive enzymes and taking digestive supplements can be a natural solution for stomach ailments and for a greater absorption of nutrients in the body.
