What is Sugar Doing To Our Kids?

The average child in the U.S. eats a whopping 32 teaspoons of added, refined sugar a day! The USDA recommends just six teaspoons and holistic doctors say less than that. What does sugar do to a growing body? That much sugar obviously doesn't help a child's weight and teeth, but what else is it doing?

1) It's impeding your child's ability to learn. Sugar reduces the amount of a chemical in the brain needed for creating long-term memory and higher order thinking.

2) It's raising their risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes in a few short years. Our children will not be as long-lived as we are for the first time in generations.

3) It causes inflammation in the body wreaking havoc on all of their organs and raising their risk of cancer.

4) Children are not eating enough nutrition. Eating sugar laden foods in that quantity crowd out more nutritional foods that their bodies need to grow and protect from all kinds of illnesses and diseases. Malnourishment is very real and has nothing to do with poverty.

Feeding your child sugar cereals, breads, candy, juice, soda, condiments, pastries, cookies, pancakes, pop tarts are nutritionally sparse and offer nothing for a young body to grow and their brains to flourish.
